Potty training

I never thought that I would or could actually be typing and talking about this. Tyler is finally potty trained and I wanted to just share my experience and to keep this as a reference for next time.

For maybe 2 months I have been asking him to come to the bathroom with us and watch us and talk about going potty in the toiled, talking about his close friends that are potty trained and how awesome it would be to be a Big boy and not use "baby diapers"... He would listen but dint really care about it. I bought a potty book here. I read tons and tons of stuff online and talked to several moms about their experience. We bought 2 potty chairs.
I let him pick out some cool under wears ( star wars and paw patrol) he would tell me he went potty after the fact and would pee on the underwear and not even care about being wet. Being a first time mom of course i had no idea of what i was doing and went off of what i was reading online or what other moms would tell me. Very frustrating when other moms would act like their kids potty trained themselves and never gave them any issue.

I then let him go naked no undies and showed him the prizes i had for him if he did go. He would sit on the potty chair for 20-30 minutes and nothing. He wouldn't pee!!! We would try that for hours and nothing, time to take a nap so back on diapers we went...
I'm a pretty calm person and even when I would get frustrated I would try not to show him..

I read online that kids usually get the urge to pee once they are in the tub.. put a little bit of water in the tub sit them there and as soon as the pee starts coming put them on the potty chair. Well i tried that and Tyler would stop the pee the second i touched him lol...

One thing when reading online for the signs for potty training readiness was a little disappointing, I really believed Tyler was ready and could do it..
Waking up dry from naps or after waking up .... Not every time
Telling me when he pooped...... Not everytime
Not wanting to be wet... Tyler didn't care if he was wet or dirty ...

I figured out that I wasn't letting him go naked long enough so..Few weeks before his 3rd birthday as soon as we woke up i took his diaper off and off we went to drink TONS of juice, water, eating LOTS of pretzels, cheetos whatever snacks he wanted..

Finally one day he sat on the chair long enough and a little pee came out .. I almost CRIED!! Only the moms that are going through this or have gone through it can understand the excitement for US!! I was home alone with him and danced and sang he was so happy we immediately went to the bathroom to get a prize.. OH BOY Tyler loves unwrapping presents specially if inside he would find a "star works" present. He was going potty a few times a day..
His birthday party came and I put a pull up on him because I figured he would be too busy to tell me or to want to listen to me. (that was another problem, I think it had to be on his time)
The next day after the party it was on... NO MORE DIAPERS
I dedicated a few days at home with him, we didn't go anywhere, before this i went to the store and bought tons of prizes, juices and snacks.. Lots of different activities to do too..

Day 1
Pee 6 times on the potty chair  Poo 1     NO accidents
Day 2
Pee 7 times (using regular toilet now.. his decision) Poo 2  NO accidents
Day 3
Pee 8 times Poo 2 NO accidents
Day 4 he was going on his own... Went to school, no accidents.

We are out of prizes now, so I made a chart and if he gets stickers on all the spots from  Monday - Friday then Saturday we go out for a big present..

Now the test will be when he goes to school and when we go out, not sure yet how that is going to go or if he's going to be ok peeing in public. I think so I have faith in him.

This has been the most stressful and most rewarding moment for us.. This is such a big accomplishment for him. He is so proud of himself and we are so so proud of him!!!!!!

It was hard finding small star wars things.. but i managed to find some at walmart and toys r us!!
